Production Organizer
Video creators struggle to have an organized production system that allows production teams to collaborate, plan and work on their personal tasks in a shared hub. For this personal project I conducted market research, interviewed, designed and did usability testing to create a platform that facilitates creators Pre and Post Production tasks, timelines and team management needs.
Process
Since this was a personal project and I started with an assumption (that users don't have good tools for productions systems), I started my case study by conducting research on the space, users and problem before diving in. This was done in order to validate that it will serve the user's needs.
Empathize & Reseach
The user demographic include American creatives, age 18-32 that are pursuing or have already become full time video content creators or work in related roles (editors, script writers, content strategists, managers, etc). Since becoming a full time creator typically relies on Youtube's monetization system, I'll focus on Youtube videos while also taking into account that most creators that are aware of pre-production systems and want to use them are typically Mid - Large sized creators.

"I typically use a mix of tools. I'll use vid IQ for video ideas, hop over to Google Docs for a template I made for scripting and then will review the editors work with Frame IO. Collaboration is key" - Cameron

"Once you grow as a creator you don't have the luxury of not having a production system, because of the coordination of the team. Pre-production is key to a high quality and an efficiently made video." - Skylar
Market Research help identify useful features & an ecosystem aesthetic. Identifying the aesthetic the user is used to and what they typically do on such platforms helped design a product that would blend in seamlessly with the user's regular app usage aesthetic and their day to day goals and feature needs as a creator.
Define & Ideate
Problem: Content creators struggle with organization, efficiency and collaboration when producing videos. They don't have an app that hosts all their production tasks, plans and content.

Solution: Making a platform to host the video production process for Youtube videos. This video production platform would that allows users to check off to-do lists, check their production timelines, delegate, collaborate, use templates and make better videos in a faster and more efficient and organized way.
Wireframe, Design & Test
Wireframing and afterwards designing in high fidelity gave the opportunity to explore variations and test the direction of the design first before gathering input from potential users and choosing the best direction.
Final Thoughts
Having worked in the creator economy and noticing this gap, I was glad to see users really wanted a Production hub like this. Seeing the users excited to have their production system resemble Youtube validated the design concept I was going for and I was able to gather more feature requests that users would want throughout the app.
The users were really happy with the final outcome, and were excited to see if a tool like this could indeed exist and store all their production planning in the future! 😊
